Η Apple τα τελευταία χρόνια πρόσφερε τη σουίτα iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) και τα apps GarageBand και iMovie εντελώς δωρεάν σε όσους αγόραζαν ένα νέο Mac, iPhone ή iPad. Το πρόβλημα, όμως, ήταν ότι οι παλιοί χρήστες έπρεπε να πληρώσουν €10-20 για την απόκτησή τους – κάτι που δεν ήταν δίκαιο για αυτούς.
